Exodus 20:4

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

Does this mean I shouldn't look at a picture or statue of Jesus before I pray? I find the visual image helps me focus, just like looking at a picture of my kids does. I know the picture of my kids is not them.
Thank you for your opinion! :)

God makes a very strong point against any images, statues, etc that may be used to represent Him.

The nations around use things, pictures, etc to worship. He wanted us to be Holy, set apart, different from everyone else. This is one of the ways He chose for us to seperate ourselves.

I take this verse very seriously.I would not try to visualize God as anything, as He specifies. Just know that He Is, He Was, He will be forever.
